Education

Baby People’s Educational work covers everything from one of workshops to full academic year placements. Working from Primary school age to Adult Education. Our focus is on working with young people that struggle to engage in mainstream education. Classes can take place at our recording studios or offsite.

Our tutors all work professionally in their field and include UK champion Breakdancers, commissioned artists, and MC, Songwriters and producers that have been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, BBC Introducing and 1Xtra aswell as MTV and have toured with Jay Z and Mark Ronson. All staff have enhanced CRB checks, are covered by full Public Liability Insurance and receive regular training.

We can provide workshops and educational classes in Music Production, Creative Writing & Lyrics, Breakdance, Aerosol and Graffiti Art and more.

Music Production & Lyric Writing

Baby People’s flagship music production and lyric writing workshops teach basic beginner to professional level skills. The courses which range from 1 hour taster session to full academic year courses cover all aspects of music production and studio engineering. The lyric writing aspect of MCing and rapping offers a route into literacy for young people particularly for boys who may not engage in literacy as MCing and Hip Hop culture is something they feel ownership of.

Online dictionaries and thesaurus on our music studio computers are amongst the most visited sites by young people who often have not been able to engage in literacy provision previously. Lyric and song writing offer opportunities for young people to express themselves on their terms.

Our lyric writing workshops focus on using poetry and song lyrics as a way to creatively explore issues and topics related to the lives of the participants. Our tutors are experienced song writers, rappers and poets who have performed nationally and released their work to the public for over a decade.

Through using a more creative and artistic approach to writing we find that many people who have previously found literacy challenging, invariably flourish and enjoy the freedom of expression associated with writing songs and lyrics.

Graffiti art

Graffiti and aerosol art is a great way of young people expressing themselves. There is often a fear that aerosol art will lead to vandalism and casual graffiti, however we have run several projects in areas where ‘tagging’ graffiti and vandalism is an issue and young peoples time and investment in putting artwork on their school/youth centre have a dramatic effect on the way young people see and treat their environment.

Breakdance

UK Breakdance champions ‘The Trinity Warriors’ deliver Street dance and Breakdance sessions to young people regardless of experience. All the dancers work professionally in their field and bring the real experience of the professional dance world to students. Sessions can range from 1 hour taster sessions to ongoing sessions leading to performance pieces.

Other Workshops

Baby People works with a range of tutors in the arts who all work professionally in their field. We run regular sessions in Photography & Design, Beatboxing, DJing, Web design and VJing. A small number of our full students also receive core skills in Literacy and Numeracy through either GCSE or OCR qualifications

Anther popular set of workshops are our Rock School sessions which involve helping young people and setup and develop bands for recording and performances.
